As a part of the landscape of the Durham/Orange County community, we want to be more than just another building. We want to move out from these walls and into the streets and serve the greater needs of the Triangle and surrounding community. Through our GROUPS ministry, we have created COMMUNITY IMPACT as our vehicle to serve the Triangle.
What is COMMUNITY IMPACT?
COMMUNITY IMPACT is an opportunity for small groups at New Horizon Church to get involved in community service. We've formed partnerships with several non-profit organizations that focus on meeting specific needs in the Triangle area.
How does COMMUNITY IMPACT work?
We're asking every small group to serve twice a year with one of our community partners. It's a chance to connect at a whole new level with those in your group while serving together in the community. Your group can participate by following three simple steps:
CONTACT one of our Community Impact liaisons listed below.
SERVE with your small group on the date you select.
SHARE about the experience at your next group meeting.
Do you have to be in a small group to serve?
The immediate answer is “no”. If you’re not in a group, we hope working along-side group members will result in relationships which will connect you to a small group. We’re serious about our small groups and believe that growth occurs in the context of community.
Community Partners
Habitat for Humanity of Durham & Summit Church
Now, through September, we are partnering again this year with Habitat and the Summit Church to rebuild Agape Corner School, located in the heart of downtown Durham. Agape Corner is a Christian boarding school where wounded children get a fresh start.

Durham Rescue Mission
2009 marks our 4th year serving a regular, monthly meal at the Main Street location. On the first Sunday of every month volunteers prepare food and serve 120 men. Beginning in May, 2009 we will also serve 80 women and children at the Good Samaritan Inn. Volunteers will prepare and serve a meal on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

C. C. Spaulding School
Our desire is to impact the lives of people on an ongoing basis. We’ve adopted the students and their families, as well as the faculty at C. C. Spaulding School, located in downtown Durham. For the past two years we have provided every child (335 children) with a new backpack, full of needed supplies. One hundred of the neediest children attending C. C. Spaulding were recipients of Christmas gifts through our Angel Tree. One hundred of the neediest families received food and toiletries through our Food Distribution. Small groups got together and provided faculty with needed supplies that they would otherwise go without or purchase out of their own pockets.

Pregnancy Support Services
PSS is a Christian ministry assisting individuals facing the challenges of unplanned pregnancy, ministering to the emotional and spiritual needs resulting from abortion or miscarriage, and promoting sexual abstinence in the community. Here are just a few of the opportunities for small groups to get involved:
host a baby shower
provide refreshments for volunteer training
provide a meal for a new mom
clean the PSS facility after hours
More information about Pregnancy Support Services is available at prenancysupport.org
